It is widely known and believed, especially in magickal circles, that each cemetery has a guardian that keeps watch over the cemetery. These guardians are said to be any number of different entity types, including the soul of the first person (or animal) buried there, thoughtforms left behind by people going about their activities, angelic beings, and any number of things. I have not interacted with them, or even looked into them all that much, though I am aware of the concept due to my own studies into the occult and the morbid curiosity I’ve harbored from such a young age.
I do believe I was followed out of my local cemetery by one once. I could straight up feel something following close behind, but when I turned around, nothing was there, and it seemed to lose interest in me after I’d left the cemetery and made it a short way up the street. I don’t believe it held ill intent; it felt more like I was being held under a scrutinizing eye and it was just following me to make sure I stayed out of trouble. To be honest, I was just strolling through to get some extra distance in while playing Pokemon Go.
I’m not talking about that, though. I need to share what my brother did to get chased out of the same cemetery by the same guardian, and I believe we’ve been having some issues with the cemetery guardian when it comes to investigating.
Okay, so I do believe I’ve mentioned that we split off into our own paranormal group, and we’ve been using the cemetery as a training ground for new members to get used to the equipment. We’ve been trying to get my brother to join us but he steadfastly refuses, claiming that he is never going into that cemetery again, but he always refused to tell us why.
Well, we finally found out why.
He’d been up at the cemetery in the middle of the night with a friend, partying and drinking, when a gigantic cloaked figure came running straight at them and chased them out of the cemetery. I find this both equal parts hilarious and horrifying.
And I do believe we’ve been directly hindered by this entity during our investigations, and honestly, I’m not that surprised. It’s purpose is to protect the cemetery, so it would make sense that it’s untrustworthy and trying to keep us from talking to the spirits inside. Because this cemetery is fairly active, but as soon as we turn the equipment on, nobody is talking. And we’ve gotten a few hints during the few instances when a spirit has “broken the rule” that something is not letting them talk.
And I don’t think it’s anything malicious, I just think the guardian is trying to protect the spirits in that cemetery. And I think that, before we return to investigate again, or investigate any other cemetery for that matter, that we need to approach the guardian and get its permission, let it know that we’re not there to hurt any of the spirits in there, there’s just one in particular that we’re trying to help, and it’s difficult to do that if said spirit can only talk to us if it crawls into a vehicle, because getting it out of the vehicle again is not an easy task. After all, said spirit appears to be a three-year-old boy; I’m pretty sure a ten foot cloaked figure is going to be very scary to a child.
I will post more about this once we’ve finished this saga in the cemetery, and once I’ve gone over all of my recordings.
We have a lot to learn to be a functioning team, it seems. I can watch every paranormal documentary that I want, but that doesn’t give me the same expertise as actually going out and doing it, and we’re going to make some mistakes along the way. Yes, we shouldn’t play with our equipment in the house, because that involves opening up a line of communication that has the potential of bringing spirits into your home desperately seeking someone who will listen, and who will act out until you do. But that also extends into not playing with equipment in your vehicle, because that’s also your space, and now you have the spirit of a young boy who’s scared of the scary tall cloaked man and thinks he’s going to be in trouble with his parents, who really doesn’t want to leave the vehicle because he now sees it as a safe place.
And now it’s smacked us directly in the face that the cemetery guardian is something that you have to go through when working with spirits in the cemetery. Because they’re untrustworthy, and as my brother found out, will go to great lengths to get rid of you if they think you’re a threat. During the start of our training as paranormal investigators, we investigated a cemetery up in mansfield where we got similar results of something keeping the spirits from talking to us, and I without a doubt know that’s because of an untrustworthy guardian who was just trying to guard its space. And we just didn’t think about that fact. Honestly, I didn’t even think about that fact until my mom told me what had happened to my brother, because I immediately knew what it was that chased him out and it clicked for the both of us that the cemetery guardian was probably also why we weren’t getting anything when we’re out there investigating.
I think after the weather clears up (it's been stormy and unbearably hot), I'm going to take a walk down to the cemetery and try to talk with the guardian. First to apologize for not going to the guardian before we started investigating in the first place, and then to try and convince it that we mean no harm, that we just wish to talk to the dead and ask if it will allow us to do so.
